Portugal is a warm, friendly, and affordable country on Europe's Atlantic edge. In one trip, travelers can ride yellow trams in Lisbon, taste port wine in Porto, visit a colorful palace, and relax on golden beaches.
Below are the top 5 destinations that make Portugal a perfect pick for your next holiday.

The Belém Tower was built in the 1500s to guard the river and welcome ships home from the sea. Nearby is the grand Jerónimos Monastery, and the famous pastel de nata custard tarts.

Porto has a colorful riverside called Ribeira, and an iron bridge, the Dom Luís I Bridge. Visitors can tour port wine cellars across the river and taste sweet local wine.

Up on a green hill near Lisbon, the Pena Palace shines in yellow, red, and blue. Around it are forest paths, other palaces, and misty views, making Sintra feel like a storybook.

The Algarve in southern Portugal is known for golden cliffs, sea caves such as Benagil Cave, and warm, sunny weather. Boat and kayak trips let visitors explore the hidden beaches.

Madeira is a green island in the Atlantic with mild weather all year. Visitors can walk along old water paths called levadas, see flower gardens, and enjoy the capital, Funchal.

Planning a trip to Portugal? Whether you need a visa depends on the passport you hold, not on where you live. If your passport requires a Schengen visa, you apply for a short-stay (Type C) visa that lets you stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Portugal has applied Schengen rules since 1995. Most travellers fly into Lisbon or another major city, and the visa works across the whole Schengen area.
Swift Holidays is a UK-registered travel company. We help you check your documents, book your appointment and arrange the insurance and travel reservations your application needs.
The exact list depends on your nationality, job and travel plans, and the consulate can ask for more. We check your documents against the current requirements before you apply.

You can apply up to 6 months before your trip. It is best to apply at least 3 to 4 weeks before you travel, and not to pay for non-refundable travel until your visa is approved.
Apply to the country where you will spend the most nights. If your time is split equally, apply to the country you enter first. If Portugal is your main destination, you apply for Portugal.
